From swimming to software
Software developper
ALTEN Sweden
“I have always been interested in technology, but my whole life had been about sports,” says Clara. “I’m a former elite swimmer.” When it came time to choose what to pursue in terms of education, Clara chose computer science. “I thought that it would be smart to choose technology – that as a woman I would have great opportunities because of the need for more women in this area.” Clara received her Bachelor’s degree from Mälardalen University in Sweden.
What is your current project at ALTEN?
I’m developing software for trains.
What attracted you to ALTEN and what do you enjoy most about your day-to-day experience?
I was attracted by the many opportunities to try different directions within my field of expertise. What I enjoy most is that I never know what challenges I will face each day, but I know that I will do my best to solve them as best I can.
Tell us about the women’s network.
I find that overall people are very positive about bringing more women into technology.
I’m part of Women@ALTEN, an internal network that aims to build togetherness among all the women working at the various offices. We also aim to attract more women to join ALTEN and to inspire young girls to focus more on technical educations.
What inspires you to become a better person and professional?
I’m a person who is affected by the people around me. If I’m in an environment where people are positive, I will be positive too. That’s why I always try to be a better person, because I know that can have a good effect on others.
What makes you want to come to work every day?
At ALTEN I have always been seen and heard. We have a very good community with people who strive to move in the same direction and to help each other to reach our collective goals. And I know that I will learn new things every day.
How do you think our clients see us?
ALTEN has a very good reputation among our clients as professionals doing a great job.
Have you given up swimming?
No! Swimming is still an important part of my life. I still train on a regular basis.
What would you say to someone who thinking of working at ALTEN?
I would say, come and join our family.
Women at the heart of technological transformation
ALTEN’s women and men are the driving force behind our business. Our Group’s ability to develop and promote the best talent available is fundamental in enabling us to meet our customers’ needs. Over past years, we have made concerted efforts to counter certain widely held stereotypes and misconceptions in order to encourage engineering vocations among young women. This collection of profiles, Stories of Women in Engineering, is aimed at just that.
“ALTEN is committed to motivating women to join the technical and scientific fields. We hope these Stories of Women in Engineering will contribute to a growing awareness of the vital role women play in science and technology, as innovators, as experts and as colleagues.” Simon Azoulay, Chair and CEO.
